The Shattering: An Ashen Wasteland Series (The Prequel) Kindle Edition

3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 96 ratings

Young Rachel Sternritter should be looking forward to a happy childhood in the modern nation of Electria. She should get to grow up without the fear of war and terrifying new weapons completely disrupting her life. But the curse of interesting times is about to dictate its own course, and no one is spared its wrath.

Rachel’s father is unable to completely shelter her from the gathering storm of war. So the announcement that they are running from the city to a mountain survival retreat does not come as a shock. And for a while, her small family is able to establish a sustainable and semi-normal lifestyle.

Unfortunately, the world’s troubles are not content to leave them in peace, even at such an altitude. This is when Rachel learns that the contagion of anger which accompanies wars is able to divide families as well as nations. When her father comes home wounded one day without her older brother, she finds herself on the run again—this time to a place she never could have imagined in her wildest dreams.

At the new mystical destination her father promises a “deep safety,” in which a person can wait for a better world. Just where it is, what it is, and who will be accompanying her, Rachel has cause for great concern over. But she has no choice. Her father is taking her there, so there she will go—if they can survive long enough to find it.

From Author Tim Elkins comes the An Ashen Wasteland series, an epic post-apocalyptic EMP survival thriller featuring flawed, complex characters and high-octane action adventure. If you're a fan Final Days, Starcaster, or Edge of Collapse, you'll love this post-apocalyptic thrill ride.

*Rated PG-13 for mild language and moderate violence*

Tim Elkins is the emerging author of the steampunk post-apocalypse series 'An Ashen Wasteland Series'.

When he isn't writing the next book in the series, he's either reading a good book or watching a sci-fi movie or TV show.

His favorite stories are those with capable characters who can handle themselves when sh*t hits the fan.

But we still get to see that they are flawed and vulnerable.

Tim's goal is to write relatable characters living out their epic stories, like the ones he loves.

A fascinating prequel to a scenario that gets more and more likely to become our own reality. We learn about a high tech corporation who’s Director doesn’t want to give to or share with the government a world-changing discovery they have made. The brain of the organization and invention, however, believes that is just what needs to be done.

Think about any of our existing corporate trillionaires and billionaires: How likey would they be to give their country or the world their most incredible discovery, which would revolutionalize the Earth and help all mankind. This series may be prophetic instead of fiction.

The resulting clash between the Director and the government leads to a dangerous outcome for the world and a tremendous devastation. Hopefully there are some people left who have the needed skills and may be able to right the wrongs - or whether that is even possible. I’m anxious to read on and find out!

As per the title, this is the backstory and introduction to 'An Ashen Wasteland.' Rachel remembers playing hide and seek with her dad and brother. When she arrives at the safe place, she goes to sleep with neither her dad nor her brother beside her. Will she be able to find them after she awakens? Don't bother with this title unless you are reading the series.

Rupert's daughter, Rachel, is the ight of his eyes. They are affluent. All should be well, but it is not. A new weapon is being available that has the capability to kill millions. And that is the rub: can it be contained?

A taut, dramatic story about the shortcomings of humans, especially those in power. (Power above al else.) Of course, this is also Rachel's story: the human, innocent ide of humanity.

Within the confines of a short story, the author manages to develop his characters and tell an interesting tale. Unfortunately, it is a story without a conclusion, which is unacceptable period.

This is the prequel of a book about Rachel who’s father has sheltered her from the war that Electria is planning against the rest of the world. The ruler wants to release a weapon that will kill millions of people to create a new era on Earth. Her father takes her and the rulers grandson to a cryogenic chamber and closes them in. When they come out decades later the Earth has changed and they don’t recognize what is there now. But what has happened to Electria, has it been destroyed also? Can’t wait for the next book! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
