Set in the picturesque seaside town on the south coast of Australia, a brutal murder throws the town in turmoil. It’s up to Jennifer Powers to find the connections which will force her to face aspects of her past she wanted to stay buried forever.
Mercedes McGuire sat in the plush cushioned chair by the window staring out over the lawns of the center. A number of figures moved in and out of the trees lining the vast lawn area. Still more figures sat alone on benches surrounding small flowerbeds throughout the lawns. It was a pretty site with flowers starting to bloom and a hint of spring colours beginning to show through the gloom of the long winter just passed.
Mercedes was a beautiful woman even with her blonde hair tightly pulled back from her face and not a trace of make up on her 25 year old face.
Although young, Mercedes’ eyes held the look of someone much older, someone who had been through too much. Her soft brown eyes, filled with anguish as she stared out over the scenery, but all she could see was the face of her 14 month old son, eyes closed, small smile on his ruby lips, tiny hands folded gently across his stomach.
He was pronounced dead minutes after the ambulance arrived as no amount of resuscitation could revive the little figure.
